Project

Enabling an energy transition that boosts growth and does not increase poverty

About the project

ReGenerate has undertaken initial scoping work to understand how to transition the UK’s energy provision in a way that boosts UK growth and does not increase poverty and the cost of living. To date, our work has focused on hosting senior leaders who are driving this change and conducting ecosystem mapping to better understand the landscape within which we are working.

Our work to date centres on two key levers for change

Identifying the drivers of change

Mapping the actors committed to a Just Energy Transition – reaching net zero in a way that works for businesses and the economy whilst not disadvantaging the most vulnerable communities.

Unlocking collaboration and innovative thinking

Bringing CEOs of leading energy companies and other senior decision-makers together to explore innovative solutions.

Find out more about our Just Energy Transition ecosystem map

Our interactive ecosystem map and searchable directory bring together the organisations, efforts and literature that have initiatives, commitments or activities related to a Just Energy Transition. It is intended to foster collaboration and innovation.

How did we build the map? Organisations on the map range from universities, standard setters and government departments to consultancies and industry bodies. Their activities range from research and advocacy to providing practical support and frameworks. We have specifically chosen to highlight organisations that have visible, public consideration of the importance of a Just Energy Transition, beyond a brief mention of this approach.

Who is it for? The map is designed to be as accessible and useful as possible to a wide range of stakeholders, whether they are already thinking about this approach to the energy transition, or just beginning their journey.

A note on the map. The map has a UK emphasis for now, whilst including many key international efforts. It was last updated in August 2023, and we hope to expand this work further.

Progress to date

Launching our Just Energy Transition ecosystem map

To understand and assess the appetite and range of efforts around a Just Energy Transition, we have
mapped the actors committed to this approach. We hope that this comprehensive mapping will help support collaboration between these efforts and actors.

Bringing together key voices in the energy industry

We hosted a private dinner bringing  together over 10 CEOs of leading energy companies and other senior decision-makers to explore and share how they can help drive a transition that works for everyone.

In building the ecosystem map, we noticed several themes and patterns emerging from our research. We captured our key reflections in a blog article.
